Gus

Gus is an English cocker spaniel born April 15, 2009. Several years ago a friend gave me a picture of a cocker spaniel puppy running full tilt towards the camera and it was such a great picture that I put it in my office next to my desk. One day when I was talking to Gus' breeder she emailed me a picture of him running after his littermates and he looked just like the puppy in the picture. I knew we were meant for each other.
The AKC breed book describes the English cocker as a merry dog. I could not imagine how a dog would have a merry demeanor until Gus joined the household. He loves his two dog housemates Heather and Signe, and Gabby the cat. Gus and Signe spend all day running and tussling in the yard. When I come home in the evening he is ready for our afternoon run and fetch time. When he runs toward me, I swear he is smiling! He is so playful, and he just knows that every person and animal was put on the earth to play with him. Gus loves to run and hike and in the winter he joins me when I back country ski.
Part of the reason I wanted a dog was as an exercise companion and also as a hang-out buddy. We have the exercise part down...it is the hang-out part we are still working on!
