Unfortunately our friend and teammate, Quest, left us for a better
place this week. Following is an excerpt from an e-mail from
Carol, one of Quest's humans with an account of Quests last days:
Quest, our "beautiful border collie, is gone.
She got sick very
quickly and left us very quickly. Paul and I hugged her
and held her and loved on her while she went peacefully, with dignity, and very well
loved. Her good pal Joy was there to help us and her.
The last week of her
life was so full -- and she was enjoying every moment.
It is this last week
of her life that shows just how great a dog she was...
that she could live
life to its fullest even when she was so sick.
Quest is such a
great dog.
This past
week, Questy went to two agility classes and ran her heart out. She
went to a flyball practice and, in true Quest
fashion, was finding ways to go and run the jumps to box --- even though she was
nowhere near them.
And this weekend,
she ran in an agility show. She was so happy. One
of our favorite memories will be recalling how Quest
and Deb had such huge Grins on BOTH of their faces after
running courses.
Yes, they Q'd
several times but best yet.....Questy was sooooo happy. We will always
remember that. It is a wonderful memory.
We have many great
memories: Getting her as a pup at Victory Stables, Her extremely insane
love of tugging in flyball that earned her the nickname
"Bite", watching Janie
taming "Bite", Paul's introduction to flyball handling Quest, her
talking
to us on the agility field, her amazing box turn, getting her
breed championship in just 4 weekends (with 19 points and 3 Majors),
playing
with our other dogs, standing on the porch and sending her
out to "go poles",
Sleeping next to us.......the list is very long
We thank all of
Quest's friends that made her life, and especially her final week, so
special. It means a lot to us that, in the past
week, she got to do all the things
she loved to with ALL the people she loved
dearly. She was so lucky. We are
so lucky.
The shock..... It happened so
fast.
Monday morning,
Quest looked sick. She did not get better during
the day. Late Monday night we went to the Emergency vet
where we found out she was anemic, had very low clotting
levels and she had internal bleeding with fluid (likely blood)
around her lungs and heart. After they got her
stabilized, radiographs on Tuesday indicated she had nodules in
her lungs. The indicators were leading towards a diagnosis of an advanced
stage of Hemangiosarcoma , a malignant tumor of blood vessel
cells. She was having much trouble breathing. Rather than subject her to more
testing to make the diagnosis final, we used input from the vet where it was
heading and it was at this stage that we went to visit her and let her go to happier
places.
Quest is now happily
barking at squirrels, chasing balls, tearing up fleecies and running flyball and
agility with no pain.
Quest, we love you
so much. Godspeed our dear friend.
