Pawsitive Energy - August 2003

On August 16th and 17th Pawsitive Energy held our 8th annual flyball tournament at Ellerslie Curling Arena. It's hard to believe that we have been hosting this event for 8 years now. First, I must say a BIG thank you to the Weather Gods…as although it was hot and humid, it did not get to 35 degrees like it was supposed to, which would have made racing unbearable. We offered regular and multibreed racing again this year and had an overwhelming response, with 28 teams one day and 29 the next. This had Patty a little nervous as it meant 102 races one day and 98 the next. She wasn't sure they would keep the lights on in the arena for us if racing continued into the wee hours of the night… Just kidding, racing ran smooth and we were done in very good time both days.

We were happy to welcome Carla Mortensen from Brandon Manitoba as our Head Judge. Carla also brought her team CARS with her so they could race. And so Carla didn't feel left out when it came to racing, Ron Pelletier jumped in and judged one of the divisions so Carla could run her dog. Thanks Ron. Even though we were busy hosting the tournament Lyall did such a good job recruiting volunteers that we were able to run two teams. A BIG THANKS to LYALL and ALL THE VOLUNTEERS.

Pawsitive Energy Oh Balls! ran in division 3 and consisted of: Colby, Kiera, Zoey, Caye, Magic and our height dog Small Fry. On Sunday we made a substitution and put Balloo in for Magic. This team ran awesome all weekend. They ran under their seed time for most of the weekend and ran their hearts out. Our start dog Colby, run by Nicole, got LOTS of extra running in as Carla our judge named Nicole her "False Start Queen". Nicole was pushing the limits and had many .01 or less starts. She did it for the team!! On Saturday they placed 4th in division 3. On Sunday they placed 3rd in division 3. Thanks to Lyall for boxloading for this team.

Pawsitive Energy Go For The Balls ran in division 4 and consisted of: Jiffy, Lokai, Reilly, McDuff, Reepo and our height dog Geordi. This team had some great runs and then had some moments when stray balls and dropped balls caused some problems. That aside the team had some brilliant moments with Jiffy running consistently between 4.02 and 4.07. Carol's starts were WONDERFUL…even though she had to get used to letting Jiffy go from so far back. Geordi held up as height dog and ran under his seed time most of the weekend. Reilly found energy we didn't know he had and was almost hyper (for Reilly) for the whole racing weekend. On Saturday they placed 5th in division 4. On Sunday they placed 6th in division 4. Thanks to Bill for boxloading for this team.

Besides great racing, we had a GRRRRRRREAT roast beef dinner on the Saturday night. It was done up, as always, by our club members Guillaine and Guy Anderson who always put on quite the spread. THANKS! We also had two wonderful raffles…one each day. THANK YOU to everyone who donated things to the raffles it was a huge success.

Pawsitive Energy would like to Thank the following people and teams for helping with set up, take down and everything in between, it made our tournament a success: Nothern Power Paws…especially John Hendriks & Ted Zazula, Spectrun Speed, Fast-Antics, Lloydminster Hot Doggers, Carla Mortensen - our judge, Ron Pelletier for relieving Carla, Donna And Andreas Guelzow for providing accommodations for our judge, and all the Teams that came out to race and support our Club.

FROM PAWSITIVE ENERGY THANK YOU AND WE ARE LOOKING FORWARD TO SEEING YOU NEXT YEAR!
