Dan adopted him as a puppy in September 2002. He's been a little training challenge and has been affectionately named "Goofy" by several former and present teammates.

He's a big lug of a guy with a huge heart.

He knows his job well, and rarely makes a mistake. He's been known to make some pretty miraculous recoveries where everyone just stands and watches in disbelief.

In August 2009, in Santa Barbara, Rico danced past 50,000 points, almost four years to the day that he earned his Onyx title.
