Our Dogs

----- -----
Bogey

Handled by: Todd Benson
Breed: Lab/Chow X
DOB: November 25, 1998
Began Flyball: July 2003
Fastest Time: 4.6
Current Flyball Title: FM
Funniest Story: When Bogey drinks water, he submerges his head up to his eyes!

Originally, our flyball goal was to have Bogey as a "spare" flyball dog, as he didn't really like tennis balls and he's not the world's greatest tug-fiend, but when Kira broke her leg in May 2004, we realized that Bogey would need to take a much more active role.  He has proven that he can run consistently all day long and that he really enjoys flyball.

If Bogey ruled the world, he’d enact a law where all dogs were required to be fed as much as they want and sit on the couch all day long. Oh, yeah…and chase squirrels forever!
----- -----
Bud

Handled by: Linda Monroe
Breed: Manchester Terrier
DOB:
Positions Played:
Fearless Start Dog
Fastest Time:
4.2
Current Flyball Title:
ONYX
Best Trick:
Trying to play catch with anything he can find whenever someone comes over.

Bud's favorite thing is playing and I should have known when I adopted him. He came from a Manchester rescue group and he brought with him: a Frisbee, a sweater, and breath mints. I hauled him home and the first thing he did was play Frisbee. Bud is a too big Manchester Terrier with floppy ears that make him look kind of goofy. He loves to play flyball and with his house mate Justa.

Bullet

Handled by: Erica Martin
Breed: Pit Bowl Terrio (Mix Breed)
DOB:
September 2004
Began Flyball: July 2006
Positions Played: Amazng Anchor
Fastest Time:
5.2
Current Flyball Title:
FDCh

Bullet is a rescue who had a traumatic start. She was attacked by another dog and lost her leg. But, Bullet didn't let that stop her...she quickly recovered and fell in love with tennis balls and tug toys. Now, she's learning to play flyball and is doing GREAT!

----- -----
Chugach

Handled by:
Phil, Amanda, and Porter Brandt
Breed: Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever
DOB: January 2006
Began Flyball: September 2007
Positions Played: Amazng Anchor/Super Start
Fastest Time:
4.8
Current Flyball Title: FDCh

What can we say about Chug, except WOW. She is a Toller through and through and can often be heard in the flyball lanes doing her very loud "Toller Scream". In fact, we're pretty sure she's the only Toller in CA that does that scream! Chug is a natural at flyball...as balls are her obsession.

----- -----
Cider

Handled by: Karyn McCulloch
Breed: Boston Terrier/Jack Russell X (P-nutt's sister)
DOB:
August 2, 2002
Began Flyball:
Started training in June 2003

----- -----

Cleo
a.k.a. Missy Cleopatra

Handled by:
Jennifer Akins
Breed: Beagle
DOB: August 30, 2003
Began Flyball: Currently in Training
Funniest Story: Every Cleo story is funny, she's a BEAGLE for goodness sake!

Cleo is a puppy owned by Jennifer's parents. She has a little more energy than the average Beagle and it was decided she needed a job. She's got a lot of tug drive and loves to retrieve, so flyball seemed like the perfect choice.

Cleo's training is progressing nicely.  She is doing full runs and her only instance at being timed showed her at about 5.5 seconds (with a better turn, she should end up in the low 5s).  We are continuing to work on distractions and her box turn.  With lots of luck, Cleo will make her debut in 2005, but more likely, listen for her Beagle bay in 2006 at a flyball tourney near you!
----- -----
Eshu
a.k.a. Eden Oaks Blew by You

Handled by: Jennifer Akins
Breed: Australian Shepherd
DOB: August 1, 2003
Began Flyball: September 2004
Fastest Time: 4.1
Current Flyball Title: FMCh

Eshu proved that he absolutely, hands down LOVES flyball.  When he ran in his first tournament in 2004, he showed us that he is a very competitive dog, racing hard to beat the dog in the lane next to him.

He has turned into a very dependable team dog, able to race in any position, passing any dog. But, watch out...if he's not the start dog, he might run you over in the "run back" area!

----- -----
Fuze
a.k.a. JenTo's Infuzion of Speed

Handled by: Todd Benson
Breed: Border Collie
DOB: April 17, 2006
Began Flyball: In Training
Fastest Time: 4.2

Fuze is one amazing border collie. She LOVES flyball, but she can't decide if she loves doing the run the most or stealing balls from the other dogs (a real no-no) more.

Fuze will make her debut into the flyball lanes in 2008.

----- -----
Hooligan

Handled by: Erica Martin
Breed: Whippet
DOB: 2007
Began Flyball: --
Fastest Time: --
Current Flyball Title: Training

Hooligan is a race-bred whippet from Southern California. He didn't have any training when I got him at 6 months old. He loves to wrestle with his siblings, especially Bullet. Unfortunately Bullet has taught him some bad habits like tugging at loose skin and collars. Hooligan gets quite vocal when wrestling, lots of growling and barking. I'm hoping his sister Nitro can teach him how to be a flyball pro like she is. Eventually he should be a flyball maniac.

-----
John Irving

Handled by: Karyn McCulloch
Breed: American Bulldog
DOB: February 5, 2003
Fastest Time: 4.9 seconds
Current Flyball Title: FDCh-G
Began Flyball: John has been training with the team since he was 8 weeks old. He ran his first tounament in October of 2004, doing warm-ups only. His first official tournament was in Chico, April 2005.

John's biggest handicap is that he is blind in his left eye. He doesn't care, but we have to be careful so that he can see what is coming his way. Despite his poor vision, JI is one of the best frisbee dogs I have ever seen!
----- -----
Kasey

Handled by: Austin Wilkinson
Breed: Border Collie
DOB: February 9, 2003
Began Flyball: May 2005
Fastest Time: 4.0
Current Flyball Title: FM

Kasey was a rescue from Northern CA Border Collie Rescue. She is an amazing dog and has really boosted the spirits of her "sister", P-nutt, and her owners.

Kasey loves to act like a clown when not doing agility and flyball. When she's out on the course or on the racing lane - she's all business.

----- -----
Kira

Handled by: Todd Benson
Breed: Beagle/Terrier X
DOB: February 9, 2000
Began Flyball: April 2002
Fastest Time: 4.2 seconds
Current Flyball Title: ONYX
Best Trick: Doing a back-flip for a tennis ball

Kira’s favorite activity is flyball, but she also enjoys Frisbee and agility.

In May 2004 Kira broke her leg playing with Eshu. With a lot of work, she was able to return to racing full-time in 2005. Kira thanks her teammates for their support!

----- -----
Kiyoshi

Handled by: Karen V
Breed: Shetland Sheepdog
DOB: January 2004
Began Flyball: In Training

Key, as she is affectionately called, is a very fast little sheltie. She is from a breeder in Texas who wanted to find a performance home for her because Key is very small. Her loss is our gain!

Karen has worked very hard with Kiyoshi, and it shows. Key has an amazing turn on the box and really enjoys her recall to her owner. Watch for this power-packed team to make their racing debut in 2008!

----- -----
Kodee

Handled by: Linda Downing
Breed: Australian Cattle Dog/Border Collie X
DOB: February 25, 2001
Began Flyball: April 2004
Fastest Time: 4.2 seconds
Current Flyball Title: FMX

Kodee is a great start or anchor dog because she really wants to race the other dogs up to the box and back.

Kodee is also funny to watch when we go to the lake - she digs on the shoreline and works herself into a frenzy!

----- -----
Meg

Handled by: Jeri Reinhardt
Breed: Border Collie
DOB: November 15, 1999
Began Flyball:
June 2002
Fastest Time: 4.2
Current Flyball Title:
ONYX

Meg first started learning flyball in the Fall of 2001 and her first tournament was June 2002 in San Jose. She has earned her "Flyball Dog," "Flyball Excellent," and "Flyball Champion." Meg has a shy temperament and Flyball has given her a great deal of confidence. She loves to compete and she loves tennis balls more than food. Meg also competes in agility and loves herding sheep (when she can fit it into her schedule).

Meg lives with her older brother, Pete, her adopted sister, Penny and Pete's cat Willy (who is Meg's substitute for a sheep).

Meg does not do tricks, she doesn't see the point.
----- -----
Mick

Handled by: Lanie Graves
Breed: Rat Terrier
DOB: June 1, 2002
Began Flyball:
July 2003
Fastest Time:
5.1
Current Flyball Title:
FMCh

Mick is a rescued rat terrier that was living in a small outdoor kennel in someone's backyard. He had too much energy and was obsessed with the golf balls that would fly into his back yard (his previous owners lived near a golf course).

Lanie decided that Mick would be the perfect dog to play flyball with as she was retiring PeeDee - the team's founding dog and most experienced. Lanie has never been sorry that she adopted Mick Jagged as he has turned out to be an amazing flyball dog!

----- -----
Nali

Handled by: Amanda, Phil and Porter Brandt
Breed: Kookerhangie
DOB: January 2006
Began Flyball:
In training

Nali (short for Denali) is Chug's sister, and when she first came out for flyball practice, she was terrified of life. However, now, through a lot of work, love, and patience from Amanda and Phil, Nali has become much more confident and outgoing.

She now races over the jumps and loves to do the box. Watch for this rare Dutch duck dog to make her flyball debut in 2008!

----- -----
Nitro

Handled by: Erica Martin
Breed: Whippit
Birthdate: Aug 19 1998
Nickname: "Whippet!" or just "Whip!"
Began Flyball: 2000
Fastest Time: 4.0 seconds.
Current Title: FMX
Best Trick: "Clean up!" when a kitchen scrap falls on the floor.  She'll come running from wherever she is.
Pet Peeve: Being stepped on or sat on when hiding under covers on the bed or couch.

Nitro also enjoys agility but has never competed.  She loves oval track, but due to advancing age, she will probably not get to do it anymore.  In 2004 she was almost forced to retire altogether after a near death experience and 7 days at the UC Davis ICU with a pneumothorax (collapsed lungs.) But she made a miraculous recovery and insisted on continuing flyball the next year.  Many people have become whippet lovers after meeting her.  Nitro has even gotten a few unprompted marriage proposals over the years- from people!
----- -----
Owen

Handled by: Karyn McCulloch
Breed: Boston Terrier
Birthdate: June 2000
Nickname: Buggie
Began Flyball: April 2002
Fastest Time: 5.8 seconds.
Current Title: FMCh
Best Trick: Goat-herding
Most Annoying Habit: Passing gas

Owen is unique in that he would sleep 23 hours a day if I let him; yet he can play flyball, run agility, herd livestock, and play soccer or fetch all day when asked to. He is a combo of total freak mixed with lazy dog. He also likes to hunt and chase rabbits and gophers. Not bad considering he was rescued after being dropped off for euthanasia due to a broken leg!
----- -----
Pete

Handled by: Jeri Reinhardt
Breed: Border Collie
DOB:
November 15, 1994
Began Flyball: January 2002
Fastest Time:
4.2
Current Flyball Title:
FMX

Pete graduated from his first flyball class June 3, 2000. His first tournament was January 2002 in Las Vegas. At his first tournament he earned over 500 points which earned him his "Flyball Dog," Flyball Dog Excellent," and "Flyball Dog Champion" titles. He can run in any position. Pete also competes in agility.

Pete lives with his little sister, Meg "the brat" who also competes in flyball, his adopted sister Penny, the "couch potato," and his cat, Willy.

His favorite trick is anything that will get him food.

By the way, as far as Pete is concerned, dogs do rule the world, there is no "if" about it.
----- -----
Photon

Handled by: Erica Martin
Breed: Borzoi
DOB:
Began Flyball: In training

Photon joins Bogey and John Irving as one of the SFC "BIG DOGS". Photon is giant and he attracts a crowd wherever he goes.

Photon is currently in training, and he'll decide when he's ready to play flyball competetively. Right now, he runs for canned cat food!

----- -----
P-nutt

Handled by: Austin & Sarah Wilkinson
Breed: Boston/Jack Rus Terrier
DOB: August 2, 2002 (Cider's sister)
Began Flyball: July 2004
Fastest Time: 4.6
Current Flyball Title: FM

P-nutt has had a lot of changes since being rescued by Sarah and Austin in late December 2003. She went to live in a new family who taught her to be a brave and confident dog. She had an amazing brother, Border Collie Khi, who she bonded with and loved dearly. And, she learned to play flyball. But, changes are inevitable in this little dog's life, and she lost her "brother" and eventually invited a new "sister", Kasey, to share her heart.

P-nutt is now a crazy, fun-loving little terrier who LOVES flyball and is training for agility. P-nutt also loves to run in her orchard and chase the rodents!

----- -----
Suzy Stubbybutt
a.k.a. Little Denmark’s Sioux Stub Butt

Handled by: Jeri Reinhardt
Breed: Danish/Swedish Farm Dog
DOB: March 27, 2004
Began Flyball: 2006
Fastest Time:
5.6
Current Flyball Title: FM

Suzy was adopted into a family of bigger dogs (Pete and Meg) and is already plotting the day when she can take over the household. Her goals in life are to play, and eat. She loves to learn new things.

Suzy first started learning flyball in April of 2005. She is a crazy little dog that likes to tug and play with her ball.
----- -----
Sydney

Handled by: Linda Monroe
Breed: Australian Cattle Dog
DOB: October 9, 2003
Began Flyball:
Fastest Time: 4.7
Current Flyball Title: FDCh-S

Sydney enjoys digging, playing with her housemates Justa Dog and Bud. When I first rescued her (after being attacked by her first owner's Ridgeback) she thought the crate was her safe haven and didn't want to come out, which has proven to be a bit of a challenge in flyball.

Sydney likes the ball, a tug toy, and food! She was a fairly easy dog to train, and has an amazing box turn and can pass any dog and be passed by any dog. However, she has some fear issues, and competing is proving to be a challenge - when she first started, she run back to crate! Now, she can compete, but every once in a while, something spooks her...but, now, she stays by my side, so we are making huge strides!

----- -----
Ticket
a.k.a. Callisto's No Speed Limit

Handled by: Jennifer Akins
Breed: Australian Shepherd
DOB: January 9, 2007
Began Flyball: In Training

Tickey is our second Texas native! She loves to do her restrained recalls over the jumps for her tug, a ball, or food. We thought we had her box turn figured out, but then she changed directions! Once we get that taken care of, watch for Ticket to make her debut in 2008!
----- -----
Tiki

Handled by: Karen V
Breed: Shetland Sheepdog
DOB: January 1997
Began Flyball: In Training

Tiki is a fabulous dog, and he really enjoys flyball...barking while waiting for his turn!

Tiki has made tremendous strides in getting ready for competition (he wanted his mom to run beside the jumps with him!), and has been doing warm-ups in 2007 to get used to the tournament environment. Watch for Tiki to begin racing in 2008!

----- -----
Tom

Handled by: Austin & Sarah Wilkinson
Breed: Australian Shepherd
DOB: January 2004
Began Flyball: October 2005
Fastest Time: 4.9
Current Flyball Title: FDCh-G

Tom-Tom was such a funny dog. He started off as a foster dog who would come to practice while looking for a forever home. One day, Tom was loose running around between drills. He went over the jumps, hit the box, and got the ball. NO ONE could believe it, so we sent him - and he did it again! For kicks, we put him in a tournament 2 weeks later, and he earned his FD and FDX.

So, it appeared that Tom had found his forever home, and he was trained to play flyball. Now, he's a great dog that will run for anyone on the team.

----- -----
Twist

Handled by: Karyn McCulloch
Breed: Jack/Parson Russell Terrier
DOB: January 2005
Began Flyball: In Training

Twist is a lovely terrier. He has typical JRT quirks (like staring at shadows) and tremendous prey drive. But, that drive makes him fairly easy to train - as he has a varied bag of tricks!

We'll work on his flyball training in 2008, and depending on how fast he progresses, he may make his debut this year!

In Memory
Scotia Khi

Owned and loved by: Austin & Sarah Wilkinson
Born November 4, 2002 - Deceased October 21, 2004

Khi was an amazing dog - always happy and eager to learn. He came from Scotia Border Collies located in Nova Scotia, Canada. His favorite things to do included tugging, playing ball or with anything that squeaks, lure coursing, flyball, and of course herding the cat and the bunny!

Khi was the kind of dog that would sometimes forgets that he was a dog. He had the most expressive face and he would make all of his flyball teammates smile.

We were devestated when Khi passed away. He contracted Blastomycosis while traveling. His "sister", P-nutt also caught it, but Khi's severe symptoms were the only indication to even check P-nutt as she was still running and playing flyball. As always, Khi was thinking of others and his spirit helps and encouraged P-nutt when she plays flyball today.

PeeDee

Handled & Loved by: Lanie Graves
Breed: Standard Poodle
Positions Played:
Any
Current Flyball Title:
FM

Lanie Graves is the captain and with over 10 years of flyball experience under her hat, is the most experienced member of the team. She and PeeDee have racked up over 6000 points together. By today's competition that may not seem like much, but in the early days of flyball those points were hard earned and full of experience.
