Mitzi

Mitzi came to my home as a foster on January 6, 2001 and adopted on April 28, 2001 from South Texas Animal Adoption Resource in Katy, Texas. Mitzi is a terrier/whippet/italian greyhound mix. She had no knowledge of how to play with toys and ‘come’ was very much a negative. She wanted to run every time she heard the word. With getting a new call word and learning basic obedience, her training for flyball began. With a lot of love, patience, positive re-enforcement and praise Mitzi overcame numerous obstacles to learn flyball. It took three years for her to learn. She has gained confidence and even started going up to people instead of running to her crate and hiding. In June 2004 Mitzi obtained her Flyball Dog title in Oklahoma. She is presently working on her Flyball Master Excellent title.

Spuds

Spuds was adopted on July 24, 1999, from the South Texas Animal Adoption Resource. He went to a basic obedience class for a refresher course and for Mom to learn. He began training for flyball and agility in August 2000. It took Spuds about three months to learn flyball and has a natural swimmer’s turn. At his first flyball tournament as a warm-up dog, he did the pattern a couple of times and then proceeds to get overwhelmed and started taking the scenic route around the Pierce Pavilion arena. In January 2001, Spuds obtained his Flyball Dog title. Spuds has also competed in a couple of agility trials and has even placed in them. He enjoys traveling, taking care of his sister Mitzi, and playing with squeaky toys and field mice.

Spuds was officially retired from flyball (and agility) in May 2007, due to having partial ACL tears in both of his hind legs. At the time of his
retirement, Spuds was #17 on the NAFA beagle (breed) list.
