Nick was owned and loved by Bill. He was an original foundation dog for Waverunners and sadly he died from cancer. Since his passing, Waverunners has dedicated our good sportsmanship award in his name. This award was one way to honor this great boy. Each year at our tournament in November each team at the tournament votes for the team they feel exemplifies good sportsmanship at that tournament. That team is awarded the trophy for good sportsmanship and they keep that award for the year. The catch is that they have to return to the tournament the next year to bring it back to be rededicated. In 2002 the good sportsmanship award went to Triad Dog Sports of Greensboro, NC. Congratulations! In 2003 the award was well earned by the new team on the block: Raiders of the Lost Bark and finally in 2004 Too Hot to Handle was the humble recipient. Way to go!
____________________________________________________________ Dog’s Registered Name: Chambray’s in a Nick of Time Call Name: Nick Nicknames: Nicki, Big Nick Breed: Labrador Retriever Born: May 29, 1994 First Flyball Tournament: August 8, 1998 Titles Earned: Obedience: AKC CD and CGC, UKC CD, WWKC CD Flyball: FD, FDX Owner: Bill Sander Nick was a big, friendly Lab that didn’t have a lot of confidence. The fourth in the pack with an older Lab and two Vizslas, he was quite happy being the one the others showed the way. Even when a third, four year younger Vizsla pup arrived, he wasn’t the leader. He just did his thing which was playing, swimming, and eating. He really loved the swimming pool and these squishy red balls that he’d swim after until I couldn’t throw any longer. In obedience, Nick didn’t excel and really was always overly concerned. Retrieving was fun, but not when it was a dead duck! We even tried a few tracking practices, but it wasn’t really him except when he discovered water in a low area after the work session and all of the dogs splashed around for the fun of it! Agility was fun, but still had too much control and too much “stuff”. But flyball was wide open and combined lots of the fun things he liked. Nick wasn’t the fastest Lab. And he would slow down when hot and tired. But he loved being at the training sessions with all of the team dogs. While his life was too short, it was a high quality life filled with fun.
