Do Run Run
Thank you for your interest in Do Run Run, a flyball club. I will try to give a brief lesson in what is needed and what is expected in flyball so you
may best determine if it will fit into your life.
First, flyball is a team sport and as such you will be expected to make certain commitments to the club. We are currently charging $10/mo. for
1 dog and $5 for each additional dog with max charge of @20/mo (3 or more dogs) for helping you train your dog (yes, you will be very
involved in the training) but do expect that if you decide to train with us that you are willing to make the commitments involved with
competition once your dog is ready for competition. Dues may be paid in January at a reduced rate of $100/year for 1 dog, $150/year for 2
dogs and a maximum of $200/year for 3 or more dogs.
We generally have competition monthly. Some of the tournaments are held locally in New Caney (and annually Reliant) and some are out of
town (Huntsville, Belton, Temple etc). If we ever decide we want to go to an out of state competition it is totally optional. The out of town
competitions generally require overnight stays. Since racing usually begins at 7:30 am it is best to plan on staying Friday night and Saturday
night as tournaments generally run two days and all dogs running are needed for the entire tournament.
If you are still interested GREAT! Now on to what is involved in practice. We hold practice mostly at my home in Alvin. We have
approximately ½ acre fenced off strictly for dog sports (flyball and agility) so your dog should be secure working off leash. For practice you
will need to bring a kennel for your dog. when dogs aren't working they need to be kenneled while others work. Other members will be helping
you in training of your dog and you will need to assist in the training of other dogs. You will also need either a flat collar or harness on your
dog - no pinch, choke or any other training collars while working with your dog. You'll also need a leash, water bowl, tug toy if your dog tugs (if
not see if you can get him/her interested in tugging - not mandatory, just helpful) and 'high value' treats. High value treats should be a soft,
easy to give small pieces, easy to chew and excitable in taste. You may also want to bring water, Gatorade or soda for yourself. And you will
need a positive attitude. We do not allow abuse or mistreatment of the dogs. You will also need to pick up after your dog. We have 'pick up
packs' available on the field. We also expect everyone to help take-down/put away the equipment after practice, so plan to be here for the
entire practice if possible.
About our members - we currently range in age from our 20s to our 70s. Some are single, some married (spouses are encourage to join but
it is not mandatory). Our dog breeds range from Border Collies, Lab, Welsh Terrier, mixed breeds, Aussies, Cattle Dog, Dobies, Standard
Poodle, PW Corgis, Sheltie and my Pomeranians. Flyball is a sport any dog can do, being a registered breed is not necessary.
