What is Flyball?
Flyball is a relay style competitive sport for dogs that was invented in the 1970's in California. There are four dogs on each team, and they run a 51 foot course consisting of a starting line, four hurdles, and a box. Each dog is required to run over all hurdles, and step on the box. The box is spring loaded, and releases a tennis ball. The dog then catches the tennis ball and runs back over the four hurdles. Once the dog crosses the start/finish line, the next dog is released. The winner of the heat is the first team that has all four dogs run without error. The height of the hurdles for your team is determined by the height of the shortest dog. The hurdles are set to be 4 inches shorter than that dog's shoulder height (the minimum is 8", the maximum is 16"). |
