Friday, October 5, 2007, Toby made her journey to the Rainbow Bridge.
Toby came into my life at the age of 9 months. She came from the Howell Dog Pound, and was lucky to have been rescued before she could be sold to some research facility. I was sure she would become our new secret weapon-a height dog that wasn't a Jack Russell (just a JRT/BC mix)! It didn't hurt that she looked almost exactly like my very first dog Kirby-same colors, markings, size, etc.
Toby was diagnosed at an early age with Addison's Disease, and was on steroids continually since that time. She was not fast enough for the Front Runners flyball team, but she was consistent enough to team up with Kip and help Pedal Pushers get running at a competitive level again while they trained some new dogs.
She was always a hit at Flyball Demos, especially when racing next to a great big chocolate lab named Rex (Toby was all of 18 pounds). Most of all she was a very sweet, loveable little dog who did some fun tricks and loved to perform for treats. Her tricks included spin, wave, speak, and more. She loved to dress up in Halloween costumes (pumpkins, bees, etc), and really pranced around quite proudly for all to admire at various Halloween gatherings.
She slept on the pillow next to me for most of her 13 and 1/2 years, and I will miss her dearly.
Rest well my sweet little Toby, you have earned it. We will meet again someday.
