Spunky was born in 1998 in Wycombe, PA. His mother was a purebred Border Collie and his father (we think)
was the neighborhood rogue German Shepherd dog. At a very early age it was clear to see that this dog had
WAY too much energy and needed some sort of an outlet. This prompted an internet search for things to do
with high-energy dogs where we happened upon something called "flyball". A little more searching and we
found a local team in Frenchtown, NJ (GBF) and a place to take flyball classes (TWK).
Spunky soon found a home on the young Great Balls of Fire flyball team and quickly became one of the stars.
He began playing in 2001 and ran in the regular, multibreed and veterans divisions until 2008 when hip problems,
probably inherited from his GSD father, forced his retirement just 600 points shy of his ONYX award. Spunky was
a true flyball dog and would rather play flyball than do anything else, including eat, sleep, ride in the truck,
or chase a frisbee. He spent his golden years in beautiful Bucks County Pennsylvania.
