EPISODE 3 - the big scary volcano...
Both tribes returned to their campsites with heads low after having
to vote off 2 of their own. At camp Fellowship
of the Fur, Brody expressed
that he felt out of sorts as the only Border Collie left. "Nobody
understands me anymore" he explained. Everyone agreed that
they would do their absolute best so they don't have to lose another
tribe member tomorrow.
At camp F.A.S.T. (Furry Animals Stranded
Together) dogs discussed strategy. "we are missing a
sight hound and a scent hound, dogs, so we need to make sure we
can still be competitive with 2 fewer members," explained Shiner.
They strategized into the night to figure out how to get along better
as a tribe.
All the dogs in both tribes met at the meeting area the next morning.
Both tribes were eager to get started on a new and exciting challenge.
Host Dillon explained how it would work.
"We are going to have a relay race. Both tribes will get 1
tennis ball. Each member of your team must contribute in some way
to bring the tennis ball into the scary volcano and drop it inside."
he pointed to the scary volcano in the distance,"you can get
the tennis ball into the volcano by any means you choose, but each
dog must carry the ball at some point during the race." The
tribes were allowed 5 minutes before the race started to come up
with a strategy, then Dillon herded
everyone together, "Survivors Ready....... GO!"
Team F.A.S.T. began with Scarlett
as start dog. Her super long legs gave her a huge burst of speed,
giving her an instant head start. "Wow,," commented Wichita,
"she's beautiful AND fast -- I think I'm in love."
For team Fellowship, Devo
took the tennis ball and turned his back to the group. "What
is he doing?" asked Murphy, "Devo
hand that ball over!" Devo barked back at Muprhy, dropping
the ball, and Callie swooped in to
get the ball and started running after Scarlett, who by then was
quite a bit ahead. "Run Callie! Run!" shouted Brody.
Murphy barked," Devo won't give a ball up for anyone, so he
has to be last."
"Heidi told me we had to make
a prayer to the Flyball God of Fire, so I was making the tennis
ball special as a sacrifice," explained Devo, to which the
other dogs unanimously expressed, "eeeewwwwwwww!!" Then
all took off through the short-cut to where they would meet up with
Callie and the tennis ball.
Team F.A.S.T. was making great time,
and Shiner was at the rendez-vous point
to meet Scarlett. With a sharp growl from Shiner, Scarlett promptly
dropped the ball for him and he was off like a cattle dog freight
train, knocking over everything and anyone foolish enough to get
in his way. Scarlett found a nice soft corner in the shade to catch
up on her beauty-rest. Nobody noticed Wichita snuggle next to her.
Shiner's speed, strength and determination drove him onward and
upward to the place where he was to meet Buster.
He gave the ball one last chomp, popping it, and dropped it at Buster's
feet. "I may not be fast, but I'll give 110%" Buster said
before picking up the ruined ball and running off at a steady pace.
At the next leg of the race, Buster met up with Spuds
and Doodle, but he couldn't make himself
spit the tennis ball. "He just held it and growled at us, guarding
it like it belonged to him," explained Doodle, "I thought
we were done for, but Spuds knew exactly what to do. He tossed a
cookie in the air, and Buster dropped the ball to catch it. I sure
underestimated Spuds, who knew he could think on his feet like that.
He tossed me the ball and started weaving in and out of the trees
like a dog possessed. I tossed him the ball and he caught it like
a pro and kept on weaving."
Upon arrival at the base of the volcano and seeing that the Fellowship
was falling behind, Travis announced
"Inniate Plan B!" One after the other, dogs picked up
the tennis ball and dropped it, each moving it a little farther
than the rest "That way all of us has carried it," said
Paddi. Then all the dogs began digging
into the base of the mounting.
Spuds met up with Sedona and handed
her the ball, and she set off to a fast pace, going right though
shrubbery with reckless abandon, with strict focus on the task at
hand.
Meanwhile, the Fellowship dogs continued
to dig, and dig, and dig. The terriers impressed everyone with their
unlimited energy, and in no time they had tunneled through the mountain
all the way into the side of the volcano.
Sedona was almost to the top of the mountain to throw in her tennis
ball and win the race, and there was a problem with the Fellowship.
"I can't do it. I can't let it go. It's too beautiful!"
said Devo with amazing ability with a full sized tennis ball in
his gigantic mouth. "What is he talking about?" asked
Paddi. That's when everyone understood...
"Devo had written 'DEVO LOVES LILY' on the tennis ball at
the start of the race. That's why it's a sacrifice - it's a token
of his love" said Brody, to which the tribe unanimously expressed,
"Aaaaaaaaawwwwhhhh!"
Murphy had an idea, "get him close to the lava - the heat
will make him pant and he'll have to drop the ball in." Travis
took it a little too far, however, almost knocking Devo in the lava.
The ball bounced off the tunnel going wide, and was lost in the
rubble. The dogs watched in silence as the F.A.S.T.
tennis ball descended, making a wet, firey splash in the
hot lava.
The dogs gathered at the base of the mountain, Fellowship
with their eyes to the sand, while F.A.S.T.
gave each other high'5's. "We have a problem here," said
Dillon. "Team Fellowship failed
to get their ball into the volcano, so they have to vote off 2 members,
however, Team F.A.S.T. did not have
every tribe member carry the ball, so you too will have to vote
off two members."
The dogs of Tribe F.A.S.T. were in
shock. "Who didn't carry the ball?" asked Spuds. Wichita
could only stare at his feet and sigh. "Sorry guys, I got distracted
by her stunning good looks." explained Wichita, while Scarlett
blushed and batted her eyelashes.
In the end, Travis and Paddi were voted off Fellowship
of the Fur and Buster and Wichita for F.A.S.T.
Wichita made sure he got a good-bye kiss from Scarlett before
leaving the island.
