beginner classes
overdrive flyball
The primary goals of the beginner flyball class are:
1. For owners to have fun with their dog
2. To strengthen the bond between owner and dog
3. To learn the basic components of flyball
- At the end of the beginner class dogs have often mastered some or all of the components of flyball including: jumping, retrieving, recalls, using a "tug" as a motivator, and the "swimmers" turn. Once all these components are learned we begin to put them together to complete the full run. As flyball is a fast paced, high energy, environment we also incorporate some relaxation and focus exercises into this class.
We welcome all dogs, regardless of age, shape, size, or breed and tailor our exercises to meet each dog's individual needs. We also have special exercises for puppies and encourage owners to bring them out after their second set of shots as this class lays an ideal foundation for any dog sport. We firmly believe that all dogs can be taught to play flyball so long as everyone maintains a good sense of humor!
- Dogs wishing to participate in a beginner class should have reasonable social skills with other dogs. No previous training is required but it does help with focus if you have taken some puppy or beginner obedience. Owners wanting to carry on with their training and compete in flyball are invited to join our intermediate class.
Anyone interested taking a flyball class should contact us for more information or to reserve a spot.
